People frequently ask me to recommend restaurants in cities around the world. Here are a few which I have enjoyed, but stress I cannot take any responsibility for any disappointment you may encounter.

Adelaide, Australia: Red Ochre Restaurant, War Memorial Drive, North Adelaide, Tel +61 (08) 8211 8555. Superb setting overlooking the river and great food, including many Australian specialities. Updated Jul05 Visit.

Buenos Aires, Argentina: Cabaña Las Lilas. A. M. de Justo, 516. Tel: 4313-1336. A stunning Argentinian restaurant specialising in great meat (especially steaks). Outdoor seating on the dockside is available. A real experience and good value. Revisited May05 and just as good as ever!! Reservations recommended after about 2030. Updated May05 Visit.

Dhaka, Bangladesh: Santoor Restaurant. House No 2, Road No 11 (New), 32 (Old), Mirpur Rd, Dhanmondi, Dhaka 1209. Tel 9128737. Quite simply fantastic Indian food.

Easter island, Chile: Te Moana Restaurant on the main street in Hanga Roa. Tel 551578. Excellent food, especially the tuna. Very reasonably priced for what is not a cheap island. Updated May05 visit.

Kyiv (Kiev), Ukraine: Kozak Mamai (Козак Мамай). Blvd Prorizha, 4. Metro Khreschatyk. Tel 044 279 90 46. Excellent Ukranian food, including a fantastic Chicken Kiev. Updated Aug05 Visit.

London, UK: Thai Nice, 322 Uxbridge Road, Acton Hill, London. Tel +44 (0)208 992 2225. A suberb Thai dining experience with the warmest of welcomes from all the staff. The Volcano chicken is a particular favourite of mine. A whole roasted chicken, set alight with Sambuca, and covered in a chili sauce! Updated Jul06 Visit.

Nairobi, Kenya: Carnivore Restaurant. Situated close to Wilson Airport, about 5 km/3 Miles from Nairobi centre, this restaurant is a must for meat lovers. For one set price as much freshly barbecued meat as you can eat is presented to you. Tel 605 933-7. www.tamarind.co.ke. Updated Mar05 Visit.

Paris, France: Le Relais de Venise, 271 Blvd Pereire, Porte Maillot. Near Etoile. Tel +33 01 45 74 27 97. There is only one dish on the menu which is a beautiful steak served in a special sauce. You can eat as much as you like. Desserts are extra but wonderful. €21 inc service per person. Updated Jun05 Visit.

Perth, Australia: The Witch's Cauldron, 89 Rokeby Rd, Subiaco, Perth. Tel +61 (08) 9381 2508. About 4 km west of the city centre in Subiaco. Ther garlic Prawns and Crayfish Mornay at this restaurant are stunningly good. Well worth the cab/train ride. Updated Aug06 Visit.

Prague, Czech Republic: Pravda, Pařižská, 24, Praha 1. Tel +420 222 329 221. An amazing restaurant with a fabulous decor. The menu features dishes all from different countries, and in my opinion is one of the very best in Prague. However, meals are not cheap.

Santiago, Chile: Como Agua Para Chocolate Restaurant in the Bellavista part of town. Address: Constitucion 88. Tel 2 777 8740. Fantastic Mexican food in a great setting. Prices very reasonable. Updated May05 visit.
