Location: 19 km/12 Miles SE of Mesa & 42 km/26 miles ESE of Downtown Phoenix.

Long Stay: Longer term parking (Terminal Lot) is a 3 minute walk from the terminal: exit arrivals and turn left. Cost: First 30 mins free, each subsequent 30 mins $1. Daily max $6.

Notes: This airport is used mostly for general aviation, however, recently, some smaller airlines including Allegiant, have begun air services here. Free wifi internet in the passenger terminal. This airport is the former Williams Gateway Airport. There is an ATM/Cash Machine is the departure area.

Phoenix - Sky Harbor (PHX):

Location: 7 km/4 Miles SE of the City Centre.

Airport Overview: 3 terminals: Terminal 4 is the largest, and on several levels. Terminals 2 & 3 are much smaller and on a single level. Terminal 1 seems to be missing!


Transfer between terminals:
On Foot: It is not too far to walk between terminals 2 & 3. There is a corridor in Terminal 3, next to JetBlue check in which leads to terminal 2. takes ~10 mins. The route is not air-conditioned, and so may become extremely hot in summer. To get to or from Terminal 4, the bus is better.
By Bus: The 3 terminals - 2, 3 & 4 are connected by free shuttle buses. The buses are silver and marked: TERMINALS - PARKING LOTS. They run every 10 mins during the day and every 17 mins in the middle of the night. At Terminal 4, the shuttles leave from level 2, door 22. At Terminal 3, they leave from the South curb/kerb on the ground level. Transfer Times by Bus: T4-T3 4 mins. T2-T3 3 mins. T2-T4 5 mins.

General: 3 taxi companies serve the airport. There are no extra charges for more than 1 in the party or for baggage. You may choose any taxi from the waiting line. At Terminal 4, taxis wait on Level 1, North Side. At Terminal 2, to find the taxis, exit baggage claim and turn right. At terminal 3 they wait on the ground level, North side.

Approx Fares: To downtown Phoenix $15-18/.10-15 mins. To Mesa $27/25 mins. To Sedona $155/2 hrs.
Meter Rates: First Mile $5, Additional Miles $2.10, Airport Surcharge $1, Traffic delay per hour $21. Minimum trip from the airport $15 (plus the $1 surcharge of course!).

General: Phoenix Transit Bus provides lift-equipped transport to and from the airport and throughout the Phoenix area. For city-wide route info and schedules call 253-5000, pick up a copy of the Bus Book available at the Info Desk in any terminal, or go to www.valleymetro.org. The following buses serve the airport:
Bus stop locations: At Terminal 4, to find the bus stop, exit Level 1 (lowest level) on the south side. Turn right and the bus stop is at the end of the terminal. Schedules are posted. At terminal 3, the city bus stop is on the ground level, south curb/kerb. In September 2009, I was unable to find the city bus stop at terminal 2.

Bus #40 East to Tempe & Mesa: Route: Airport Terminal 4 - Airport Terminal 3 - University Dr - Apache Blvd - Downtown Tempe - Main St - Sycamore/Main St Transit Center - Power Rd - Superstition Springs Shopping/Transit Center. Timings: Buses depart the airport Mon-Fri at 0352, 0422 & 0452 (terminating at Main/Sycamore). Thereafter bus run every 30 mins 0452-2022. Later buses again terminate at Main/Sycamore. The last bus leaves the airport at 2352. Weekends at 0407 & 0437 (terminating at Main/Sycamore). Thereafter bus run every 30 mins 0507-2107. Later buses again terminate at Main/Sycamore. General: At Terminal 4, shuttles stop on level 1. At terminal 2, exit baggage claim and cross one road to find the stop.
Ace-Xpress: Run shuttles from the airport to Camp Verde, Clarkdale, Cottonwood, Jerome, Lake Montezuma, Oak Creek Canyon, Rim Rock & Sedona. Cost: To Sedona Adult One Way $47, Adult Round Trip $78. Contact: (800) 336 2239 or (928) 639 3357. Reservations are strongly recommended.
Anytime Airporter Express: Run shuttles from the airport to Clarkdale, Cottonwood, Jerome, Lake Montezuma, Oak Creek Canyon, Rim Rock & Sedona. Contact: (928) 284 4065.

Bison Express Shuttle to Yuma: Run shuttles from the airport (all 3 terminals) to Yuma (Chevron station, 592 E 16th St). Timings: Shuttles leave the airport daily at 0930, 1130, 1430, 1630 & 1930. Buses leave Flagstaff daily at 0430, 0730, 0945, 1230 & 1530. Buses leave camp Verde 1 hour later. Timings: Shuttles leave the airport daily every hour 0630-2030 & 2230. Shuttles leave Prescott daily every hour 0400-1800 & 2000. Travel Time: To Prescott 2 hrs. Cost: Adult $28 one way. Sedona-Phoenix Shuttle: Route: Airport (baggage reclaim) - Camp Verde (1:45), Cottonwood (2:10) - West Sedona Sedona (the Super 8 Motel near the Kokopelli Suites) - Oak Creek (2 hrs 45). Timings: Shuttles depart Phoenix Airport for Sedona at 1000, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400, 1600, 1800 & 2000. Arrival 2:30 later. Shuttles leave Sedona for PHX airport 0600, 0700, 0800, 0900, 1000, 1200, 1400, 1600. Arrival at the airport 2 hrs 30 later. Cost: $85 round trip, $45 one way cash only. Super Shuttle: Operates all over the city. Shuttles stop on level 1 of terminal 4 and outside the other terminals. Typical fares: Downtown Phoenix $12-13. They also serve Carefree-Cave Creek, Mesa, Scottsdale, Tempe and Sun City. On my last visit in September 2009, I found the staff there unhelpful, and could not prise the fare information from them. Shuttle-U: Run shuttles from the airport to Black Canyon City, Cordez Junction, Dewey, Mayer, Pioneer Park, Prescott & Prescott Valley. Timings: Shuttles leave the airport hourly 0730-2130 every day. Takes ~2 hrs 15. Cost: Adult One Way $31, Adult Round Trip $52, Child 3 and under: Free. Contact: (928) 442 1000.
Timberline VIP: Run shuttles from the airport to Greer, Heber, Payson, Pine, Pinetop, Show Low & Springerville. Contact: (866) 628 2020.
Hotel Shuttle Buses: Several airport area and city hotels run free shuttles for guests. These generally pick up outside baggage claim. In Terminal 3, they pick up on the ground level, North side.

By Train:
Phoenix Light Rail: The new Valley Metro Light Rail system passses close to the airport. See System Map.
Getting to the Station: It is connected by a free shuttle bus to Sky Harbor’s terminals from the light rail transfer station on the southwest corner of 44th Street and Washington. The buses to and from 44th Street and Washington run during the same hours as METRO light rail, have space for luggage like Sky Harbor’s Rental Car Center buses and stop at each airport terminal every 10-12 minutes. At terminal 4, the shuttle can be found on Level 1 North side. The Metro rail shuttles are silver.
Route: The Metro rail system consists of a single line from Mesa in the east, past the airport, downtown Phoenix, to NW Phoenix (Montobello/19th Ave). Route Details: Sycamore/Main Street station, Mesa - West on Main Street in Mesa - West on Apache Boulevard - Northwest on Terrace Road to University - Northwest along Veteran's Way to Mill Avenue - West along Third Street - North across Tempe Town Lake Bridge - West on Washington Street - North on Central Avenue - West on Camelback Road - North on 19th Avenue - Montebello/19th Avenue station.
Timings: Trains run Mon-Fri every 10-20 mins, roughly 0355-0049. Saturday every 10 mins 0415-0347. Sunday every 20 mins 0415-1247. See Online Schedule.
Cost: $1.75 per journey.

The new, ultra-modern Rental Car Center is now open. All airport rental car companies, their rental counters, and vehicles are located here. On arrival at the airport, proceed to the airport curb at the baggage claim level. Look for the Rental Car Shuttle pick up area, which takes passengers to the Rental Car Center. Rental car counters are no longer located in the terminals. All rental car companies use a common, multi-colored Rental Car Shuttle bus.

Car Parking:
Terminal 2: Each 20 mins $1. Daily Maximum (Upper Level Economy Parking) $8. Daily Maximum (Lower Level Garage Parking) $20.
Terminal 3 or 4: Each 20 mins $1. Daily Maximum $20.
West Economy Parking: Also known as the Jackrabbit Lot. Each 20 mins $1. Daily Maximum $8.
East Economy Lot & Garage: Also known as the Gecko & Roadrunner Garages. Each 20 mins $1. Daily Maximum (surface lot) $8. Daily Maximum (garage) $10.
Parking Shuttle Buses: Car parking shuttle buses stop near baggage claim areas of each terminal. There are 3 routes. One serves the West Economy Parking Garage (Jackrabbit) and all airport terminals, the other 2 serve the East Economy Parking Garage (Gecko & Roadrunner) and all airport terminals. The Buses are silver and are marked as either the East or the West route. If you are transferring between terminals, take either bus, but if you are going to an economy parking lot, you must use the bus that services that lot. Buses run every 10 mins during the day and every 17 mins in the middle of the night.
Pre Flight Parking: Operates from a remote parking lot at 44 N 44th St, via shuttle buses. Contact: Tel (602) 267 0166.
Cell Phone Lot: This airport has a Cell Phone Lot, where drivers can park for free awaiting a call from their arriving passengers. There is one next to the West Economy/Jackrabbit garage. There is another just east of terminal 4.

Baggage Storage: There is no luggage storage at this airport, despite it being advertised in the airport directory.
Money Services: ATMs/Cash machines throughout the terminals. In Terminal 4 they are on Level 2 near the check in desks. In Terminal 3 there is one on the ground level.
Notes: Baggage carts available to rent for $4.

Timings: Buses leave the airport Mon-Fri every 20-30 mins 0424-2326. Saturdays every 30 mins 0411-2341. Sundays every 30 mins 0411-2141. Cost: One ride $1.75, all day pass $3.50.
