New Orleans - Louis Armstrong Intl (MSY):
Location: 17 km/11 Miles W of the City.
Airport
Overview: One terminal on 2 levels. The upper level is for departures, and
for the Jefferson Transit bus to and from the city. The lower level is for
arrivals, baggage claim and all other transport options. The so-called
'Transportation Center' is on the lower level of the car park across the road
from baggage claim number 6. It is a very poor attempt at a transport hub - just
a few seats and no information or schedules. Rental Car shuttles stop behind the
Transportation Center, as do hotel courtesy buses and parking shuttles.

| General: | Taxis wait outside the baggage reclaim area on the ground level. Taxi Dispatchers have booths outside baggage carousels 4 and 11. Not all taxis have a credit card machine, but the dispatcher will find one for you if you wish to pay with a credit card. There is currently a fuel surcharge of $2 per trip (not per person!!). | |
| Meter Rates: | 1st eighth of a mile $2.50. each extra eighth of a mile $0.20. Waiting: $18 per hour. Trips to downtown New Orleans are not metered but a set fare: see below. | |

| Airport Limousine: | Airport Limousine operates Limos from the airport to the city. Reservations are not needed. Cost: To the city: 1 & 2 passenger $58, 3 passengers $68, 4 passengers $78, 5 passengers $88, 6 passengers $98, 7 passengers $108 & 8 passengers $118. | Jefferson Transit E2 Bus to New Orleans: | This bus picks up and drops on the median, outside Entrance #7 on the upper level. Near AirTran & Delta Check-in. During weekedays only it runs to the CBD. |
| Route (Mon-Fri): Airport Upper Level - Airline Highway - M A Green Shopping center - Dept of Motor vehicles (DMV) - Nike Factory Store - Tulane Ave/Carrollton - Corner Tulane/La Salle downtown New Orleans. Route (Weekends): Airport Upper Level - Airline Highway - M A Green Shopping center - Dept of Motor vehicles (DMV) - Nike Factory Store - Tulane Ave/Carrollton. See Route Map. Note: At weekends, this bus terminates short of the CBD/Downtown area. The most convenient stop to pick up the bus for a trip to the airport (Mon-Fri only) is at the corner of Tulane & La Salle in downtown New Orleans, just west of the French Quarter. The bus stop is opposite the large Soviet looking hospital, but there are no signs or schedules to indicate this. | |

| Airport Shuttle to New Orleans: | Routes: Run a shuttle van service from the airport to and from the hotels in the CBD/Downtown and French Quarter. Note: Signage at the airport suggests vans run on 3 different routes, but staff in the terminal in November 2008 dispute this. Timings: Officially vans run every 20-30 mins. Note: Vans only depart when full or nearly full. This may mean considerable waiting at quiet times. I was asked to wait 30-40 mins mid-day during the week.
