| Lufthansa Airport Bus to the city: | Route: Airport (Central Area) - Munich North (Ungererstrasse outside Nordfrienhof Station on U6 line) - Central Train Station (Arnulfstrasse outside the Hauptbahnhof). On the trip to the airport, buses drop right outside the terminals. Timings: Buses leave the airport daily every 20 mins 0620-2140. Buses leave the Hauptbahnhof daily every 20 mins 0510-1950. Buses leave Munich North daily every 20 mins 0525-2008. Transfer Times: To Munich North ~25 mins. To the train station ~40 mins. | The Airport Train station is on the basement level of the central area (between the 2 terminals, but closer to terminal 1) and is well signed from both terminals. Buy your ticket at the desk on the ground level or from the machines. Validate your ticket in the machine at the top of the escalator before descending to the platform level. There are 2 train lines that run, the S1 and the S8. Both take very different routes to reach the city centre. One way €8.80. A day travel card for use on the airport train, regular train, buses and trams is only €9. Takes 40 mins to reach the city centre. | |
| S1 Train | Route: Runs anti-clockwise to the North and West of the city before running into the centre. Airport - Flughafen Besucherpark - Neufahrn - Eching - Lohhof - Unterschleißheim - Feldmoching - Fasanerie - Moosach - Laim - Donnersbergerbrücke - Hackerbrücke - Hauptbahnhof/Central Train Station - Karlsplatz/Stachus - Marienplatz (City Centre) - Isartor - Rosenheimerplatz - Ostbahnhof. Warning: When travelling to the airport on the S1, note that the train divides at Neufahrn with some trains running to Freising. Make sure you are at the rear of the train. Timings: Trains leave the airport daily at 0011, 0431, 0531, then every 20 mins until 2351. Trains leave the Ostbahnhof daily at 0337, 0417, 0457, 0517, then every 20 mins until 2317. | S8 Train | Route: Runs clockwise to the East of the city before running into the centre and then out to the SW. Airport - Flughafen Besucherpark - Hallbergmoos - Ismaning - Unterföhring - Johanneskirchen - Englschalking - Daglfing - Leuchtenbergring - Ostbahnhof - Rosenheimerplatz - Isartor - Marienplatz (City Centre) - Karlsplatz/Stachus - Hauptbahnhof/Central Train Station - Hackerbrücke - Donnersbergerbrücke - Laim - and stations on to Geltendorf. Timings: Trains leave the airport daily at 0002, 0022, 0042, 0102, 0142 then every 20 mins until 2342. Trains leave the Hauptbahnhof daily at 0018, 0038, 0238 then every 20 mins until 2358.
