Visas can be obtained on arrival at Cairo airport. Prior to passport control, you will see a number of small booths belonging to banks, which offer visas. Simply pay them US$15, ~GBP 8 or equivalent in Egyptian pounds and they will give you 2 adhesive stamps to put in your passport. Then proceed to passport control.

Abu Simbel (ABS):  Location: 1 km/1 Mile N of the temple at Abu Simbel.  By Taxi: Short taxi ride to the antiquities. Expect much argument to obtain a realistic fare. Always agree a price before setting off!! Due to the current rates of exchange, taxi drivers are not keen to be paid in Egyptian pounds, but prefer US Dollars, Euros or British Pounds.  Updated Jan06.  [back].[top]

Al Alamein - Dabaa (DBB):  Location: 60 km/38 Miles from Al Alamein & 100 km/63 Miles W of Alexandria.  By Shuttle Van: cityhoppa.com runs shuttle vans and private cars from this airport to Alamein, Matrouh & Alexandria. Click here to book.  Updated Mar07 ADV.  [back].[top]

Alexandria - Nozha (ALY):  Location: 8 km/5 Miles ESE of the City centre.  Airport Overview: A very basic airport terminal with little more than a bank kiosk inside.  By Taxi: Taxis wait in the car park outside the building. To the city centre/Corniche EGP 35+/15-25 mins. Due to the current rates of exchange, taxi drivers are not keen to be paid in Egyptian pounds, but prefer US Dollars, Euros or British Pounds. Expect much argument to obtain a realistic fare. Always agree a price before setting off!!  By Bus: Various buses are reported by various sources to serve the airport, including bus #303 & #310 from Midan Orabi or Minibuses #703 & #710. However, on my visit in January 2006 I could find no sign of any buses serving the airport.  Notes: No ATM/Cash Machine in the terminal building, but if you exit the building and turn right, there is one in the wall of the next building. This airport is used for domestic flights, but by 2009 a new airport should be open, serving both domestic and Intl flights. There are no Visa booths on arrival at this airport, but an immigration officer will provide visas on arrival on request.  Updated Mar06 CLowry.  Last Visit Jan06  [back].[top]

Alexandria - Borg el Arab Intl (HBE):  Location: 60 km/38 Miles SW of Alexandria City center & 25 km/16 Miles SE of Borg el Arab city.  Airport Overview: A very basic terminal with almost no facilities, however visas are available on arrival.  By Taxi: To Alexandria EGP 80-100/40-45 mins. Expect much argument to obtain a realistic fare. Always agree a price before setting off!! Due to the current rates of exchange, taxi drivers are not keen to be paid in Egyptian pounds, but prefer US Dollars, Euros or British Pounds.  By Limo: 3M Car Rental & Limousine Tel 573 2944 or mobile 012 325 0528.  By Bus: It is claimed that bus #555 runs from El Raml Bus station, right outside the Sofitel Cecil hotel in the city centre. Despite there being a notice there suggesting that the buses leave daily at 1230 & 2200, I could find no trace of any such bus at the appointed times. The travel agency across the road is very helpful. Good luck! Staff at the airpot say it does run. Cost is claimed to be EGP 6 per person and EGP 1 extra per bag. Buses are reported to leave 2 hrs before flight departures.  Car Parking: Right outside the terminal.  Notes: No ATM/Cash machine at the airport or nearby. This airport is a military base that is used for international flights at present. By 2009 a new airport should be open.  Airport Hotels: No hotels at or close to the airport, but the nearset major hotel is the Hilton Borg el Arab Resort (Tel 03 37 40 730) is US$20/28 km/18 Miles away.  Updated Jan06.  Last Visit Jan06  [back].[top]

Sharm El Sheikh Intl (SSH):  Location: Located at Ras Nasrani/Ras Nasrany, 10 km/6 Miles NE of Na'ama Bay, 18 km/11 Miles NE of Sharm el Sheikh centre & 12 km/8 Miles SSW of Nabq.  Airport Overview: At present, just one terminal called Terminal 2. The arrivals building is unusual in that on exiting customs, you end up on the street, with no facilities for bus, taxi nor car rental immediately obvious. This is clearly not an airport with the independant traveller in mind: most passengers are met by reps and herded to the appropriate bus. A new terminal is under construction and should be open later in 2006.  By Taxi: Taxis are not right outside the terminal. If you start to walk across the car park outside arrivals, you will be approached by taxi drivers, who will offer to take you to your hotel for an outrageously inflated price. Much argument and walking away will be required to obtain a realistic price. Due to the current rates of exchange, taxi drivers are not keen to be paid in Egyptian pounds, but prefer US Dollars, Euros or British Pounds. Approximate costs: To the nearby hotels, eg Conrad Hotel or Baron Resort EŁ35-40/5 mins. Always agree a price before setting off!! Blue and White taxis are the only ones that are allowed to go into the town centre of Naama Bay. Official rates to Naama bay are EGP 20-35, and to downtown Sharm-el-Sheikh EGP 40, but do not expect to pay these prices.  By Bus: A minibus is reoported to run from the airport to downtown Sharm for EGP 2, but I could find no trace of it.

By Shuttle Van:
hoteltransfers.com operates a service at this airport. Many hotels offer complimentary transfers, including the Conrad Hotel, Renaissance Golden View Beach Resort and many others.
Resorthoppa.com can arrange transfer by minivan, coach or taxi from this airport. Click here to book.

Rental Cars: A representative from eSixT car rentals has a mobile booth in the arrivals hall, offering car rental and drivers also. Other car rental companies operate from nearby hotels and include AVIS 069 3602 400, Bita 3600 826, Budget 3601 610, CRC 3601 297, HERTZ 3662 299 & others.  Notes: Duty free shop available in arrivals. No hotel booking desk or similar seems to be available. You are recommended to find accommodation before arriving at this airport. 2 ATMs/Cash Machines are in the International arrivals hall. Departing passengers may use it after consultation with security.  Airport Tel No: 069 3601 140 or 3600 302.  Updated Mar07 ADV.  Last Visit Jan06  [back].[top]
