When you’re searching for cheap flights, there are few factors to bear in mind: price, times, airline, but what about the airports you are flying from and to? The facilities, services and location of an airport can make a big difference to your travel experience. So eDreams surveyed 30,000 customers to get their opinions on which are the best airports in the world.

Travellers were asked to rate everything – from shopping and restaurants, to bus and train connections to the city centre. Dubai International Airport (DXB) was a clear winner overall. People appreciated the functional but stylish design, as well as the excellent shopping, services and waiting lounges. San Francisco International (SFO) and Hamburg Fuhlsbuttel (HAM) also did well overall.

With regard to getting to and from the airport, it depends on the mode of transport you want to take. The Train connection at Zurich (ZRH) got a pretty perfect 5 out of 5. The metro at Capital International Airport Beijing (PEK) was hot on its heels with 4.99, and everyone gets a taxi at Tokyo Narita (NRT) as a result of low prices and high availability.

It seems that Visa and Immigration services were a hot topic for many travellers, as there was quite a large disparity between the best and worst airports in this category. 4 airports scored a dazzling 5, including Hamburg's Fuhlsbuttel (HAM) and Stuttgart’s Echterdingen (STR). But many scored a big 0.

Not all airports got glowing reviews, with Bucharest’s Baneasa and Paris Beauvais both getting scores below 3, the latter by a landslide vote.

If you’re planning to book flights, it’s always a good idea to read customer reviews on specific airlines, routes and airports before you book.
