Cancun Chetumal Cozumel Playa del Carmen Rest of Mexico

Taxi service from many Mexican airports to the city can be a rip off due to airport monopolies (Maybe $10 - $20 extra). Look for Colectivos (shuttle vans) that will usually have a much more reasonable rate into town.
A colectivo is a minibus or van. Airport in Spanish is: Aeropuerto

Cancún (CUN):  Location: 23 km/15 Miles SW of Cancun city and the beach area.  Driving directions: Take Carretera (highway) Cancún-Chetumal until the Km 22 exit, and follow signs for the airport.  By Taxi: An official taxi company provides services from the airport. Taxis can be paid for at the airport just after the arrivals hall. US$14-20/20-25 mins. To Playa del Carmen 335 Pesos/US$30-35/1 hour.  By Limo: Playa.info run a private Airport transfer service to Playa del Carmen for larger groups, or those who simply don't want to be bothered with waiting around for a bus, taxi, or shuttle. Our driver will wait for you outside the arrival terminal, holding a sign with your name on it, and the private, air-conditioned van will take you directly to your hotel, with no annoying stops at other people's hotels. Cost US$62-135 per car or van depending on size. Find limo service, click here.

By Bus:
Servicio Colectivo Servicio Colectivo Minibus meets all flights. US$6 to Hotels/30 mins.
Local Bus There is now a local city bus that calls at the airport every hour, with a direct service to Cancun downtown bus terminal. It is operated by Riviera bus line.
Playa del Carmen Bus Another bus from Riviera bus lines runs from the airport to Playa Del Carmen bus terminal, 3 blocks from the ferry terminal. Costs 65 pesos per adult (~US$7) & 33 per child one-way. Tickets can be bought from the driver or from a kiosk in Terminal 2. Buses run from the airport hourly 1030-2030. It leaves from outside the main arrival hall at the airport. Just before you exit the terminal, there is a Riviera counter, where you can buy tickets. In Playa del Carmen the bus stops at the main bus terminal on 5th Avenue and Juarez. Timings: Cancun airport - Playa del Carmen 1030, 1145, 1245, 1345, 1445, 1545, 1645, 1745, 1845, 1945 & 2045. Note: It's a good idea to have a plan for your transfer before you get here, so you don't get confused by the sometimes chaotic greeting at Cancun airport. People will come up to you and say 'Playa del Carmen?' and try to help you with your bags, in order to get you on their colectivo, taxi or whatever. If you don't want their help, just say no and keep walking.
Colectivo to Playa del Carmen A colectivo is a van that takes up to 10 people. They don't leave at any specific time, but you will have to wait until it's full enough to justify the trip. You may have to make stops at other resorts and hotels along the way, which can easily double the time it will take you to get to Playa del Carmen. To take one of these authorized taxis, go to any of the TTC kiosks located around the terminal and buy a ticket, or just step out of the arrival hall and you will get many offers. The price usually works out at ~US$18 per person.
